Quantitative Aptitude Questions with Answers PDF
01) Arithmetic
It covers basic mathematical operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and topics like percentages, profit and loss, averages, ratios and proportions, time and distance, etc.
Example:
An article is sold for Rs 2400 at a profit of 25 %. What would have been the actual profit or loss if it had been sold at Rs 1800?
Solution:
Firstly let us find the cost price of the same. C.P. = 2400 × 100/125 = 1920.
New selling price = Rs. 1800 ⇒ Loss = 1920 – 1800 = 120
∴ Loss percentage = 100 × 120/1920 = 6.25%.
02) Data Interpretation (DI)
DI involves the interpretation of information presented in various formats such as tables, charts, graphs, and histograms. Candidates should practice analyzing and solving questions effectively based on this information. Data interpretation questions in banking exams come in different forms.
Example:
(Qs. 1-5) Study the following table and answer the questions given below.

1. In which month unit B has a contribution of approximately 15% in the total sugar production?
a) August b) June c) July d) April
2. Which of the following units shows a continuous increase in production of sugar over months?
a) A b) B c) C d) D
3. In the case of Unit E, in which of the following pairs of months the production of sugar was equal?
a) April & June b) June & July c) July & August d) April & May
4. In the month of June, how many units have a share of more than 25% of the total production of sugar?
a) one b) Three c) Two d) Four
5. What was approximate percentage decrease in sugar production of unit B in June as compared to April?
a) 8 % b) 10 % c) 15 % d) 18 %
Q1: (c), Q2: (a), Q3: (d), Q4: (a), Q5: (b)
03) Number Series
Number series questions test one's ability to recognize patterns and relationships between numbers. Regular practice is essential to master this subject.
Example:
17 16 14 12 11 8 8?
1. 4
2. 7
3. 3
4. 2
5. None of the above
Solution:
There are two series:
I
st
: 17 14 11 8 and 2
nd
: 16 12 8?
In the first series, -3, -3,-3….. and in 2
nd
series , -4, -4,-4….
Therefore, the next term will be 8 – 4 = 4.
04) Simplification and Approximation
These questions assess candidates' ability to simplify complex mathematical expressions and obtain approximate values quickly.
Example:
3.2% of 500 × 2. 4% of? = 288
(a) 650
(b) 700
(c) 600
(d) 750
(e) 850
Solution:
16 × 2.4
100 ? = 288
? = 750
05) Quadratic Equations
This topic covers solving quadratic equations and analyzing their roots. Knowledge of quadratic equations is crucial to score well in Quantitative Aptitude.
Example:
The length of a rectangle is less than twice its breadth by 1 cm. The length of its diagonal is 17 cm. Find its length and breadth
A. 15 cm, 8 cm
B. 13 cm, 4 cm
C. 10 cm, 6 cm
D. 8 cm, 9 cm
Solution:
Option A
L = 2B – 1, Diagonal = 17. D
2
= L
2
+ B
2
⇒ 289 = (2B –1)
2
+ B
2
⇒ B = 8 & L = 15.
Also, 8, 15, and 17 are Pythagorean triplets.
So the answer can be reached directly.
06) Permutation and Combination
Permutation and combination questions assess candidates' ability to count and arrange objects or events in different ways. Bank exam questions may include determining the number of possible combinations to create a password, seating arrangements, or choosing committees from among people.
Example:
Find the sum of all the 4-digit numbers that can be formed with the digits 3, 4, 5, and 6
1. 119988
2. 11988
3. 191988
4. None of these
Solution:
Option 1
No. of Digits = 4 All are distinct; They can be arranged in 4! = 24 ways
Each of the digits 3, 4, 5, and 6 occur at unit place = 3! Ways = 6 ways.
Thus there will be 6 numbers ending with 3, 4, 5, and 6 each. So the sum of the digits at unit's place = 6(3 + 4 + 5 + 6) =108
The sum of numbers = 108 × 10
3
+ 108 × 10
2
+ 108 × 10
1
+ 108 × 10
0
= 119988
07) Probability
Probability questions assess candidates' understanding of the probability of events and involve calculating probabilities in different scenarios.
Example 1:
A coin is thrown 3 times What is the probability that at least one head is obtained?
Total number of ways = 2 × 2 × 2 = 8. Fav. Cases = 7
P (A) = 7/8
OR
P (of getting at least one head) = 1 – P (no head)⇒ 1 – (1/8) = 7/8
08) Inequality
Inequality questions assess candidates' ability to compare quantities and determine their relationships using mathematical symbols such as greater than (>), less than (<), or equal to (=). Banking exam questions may involve solving inequality equations to determine loan eligibility criteria or assessing financial performance indicators.
Example:
Directions (1-2): In these questions, the relationship between different elements is shown in the statements. These statements are followed by two conclusions. Mark the answer as:
a) If only the conclusion I follow.
b) If only conclusion II follows.
c) If either conclusion I or II follows.
d) If neither conclusion I nor II follows.
e) If both conclusions I and II follow.
Q1. Statements:
Q≤B<M, Z>Q, S>B≤T,
Conclusions:
I. Q ≤ T
II. M > S
Ans: a
Solution:
The only conclusion I follow.
Conclusions:
I. Q ≤ T (True) (Q≤B≤T)
II. M > S (False) (M>B<S)
Q2. Statements:
T>Z≥W, B>Q>W>O < M
Conclusions:
I. T > O
II. B > O
Ans: e
Solution:
Both conclusions I and II follow.
Conclusions:
I. T > O (True) (T>Z≥W>O)
II. B > O (True) (B>Q>W>O)
9) Data Sufficiency
Adequacy of information questions assess candidates' ability to determine whether a given piece of information is sufficient to solve a problem. In banking exams, data sufficiency questions may involve analyzing financial statements, graphs, or tables to determine if the information provided is sufficient to answer questions related to interest rates, loan approvals, or investment decisions.
Example:
Given below is a question and a set of statements. We have to find which of the given statements is required to reach the conclusion.
Q1.
Who is the tallest among the brothers A, B, C, D?
Statement 1: C is shorter than only B
Statement 2 : D is taller than only A
I) Statement 1 alone is sufficient
II) Statement 2 alone is sufficient
III) Both statement 1 and statement 2 together are sufficient
IV) Both statement 1 and statement 2 even together are not sufficient
Solution:
If we consider statement 1 only, we can safely conclude that B is the tallest of all. If we consider statement 2 only, we can safely conclude that A is the shortest of all. Therefore, statement 1 alone is sufficient to answer the question.
