NIFT 2025 Reservation Criteria: The National Institute of Technology (NIFT) 2025  will release the NIFT 2025 reservation criteria for candidates seeking admission to its UG and PG design courses. The reservation criteria will be notified on the official website at  www.nift.ac.in. These reservations are provided under the government guidelines to ensure equal opportunities for students under various backgrounds. 

NIFT 2025 Reservation Criteria Overview

The NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) has established specific reservation criteria for the 2025 admissions cycle to promote inclusivity and equal opportunities among candidates. The criteria allocate seats across various categories, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), General Economically Weaker Sections (GEN-EWS), Persons with Disabilities (PWD), and state domicile candidates. This structured reservation system aims to ensure that students from diverse backgrounds have access to quality education in fashion technology and design.

NIFT 2025 Reservation Criteria Category-Wise Reservation

The NIFT 2025 reservation criteria specify the percentage of seats allocated to different categories, ensuring that candidates from various socio-economic backgrounds have access to education. The reservation is distributed across categories such as Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD).

Some of the important points regarding the NIFT 2025 reservation criteria are as follows.

  • NIFT provides reservations for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL), Economically Weaker Sections (GEN-EWS), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD).
  • Candidates must provide valid category certificates issued by the Competent Authority of their respective State or Union Territory. The certificate should be in the candidate’s name.
  • The certificate must be in English or Hindi. If it is in any other language, a certified translation must be provided.
  • The OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate should be issued in the candidate's own name and should clearly state that the candidate belongs to the Non-Creamy Layer. The caste listed should be included in the Central list of OBCs.
  • Candidates from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) within the Open Category must provide a valid EWS certificate issued by a Competent Authority, dated on or after April 1, 2024.
  • Candidates applying under the Disability (PwD) Category must have a Disability Certificate with a Unique Disability ID (showing 40% or more disability), issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
  • The category declared in the NIFT application form is final, and no changes will be permitted after submission.
  • Each NIFT campus reserves seats for State Domicile Candidates, providing local students an opportunity for admission based on their state of residence.
  • Unfilled Domicile (Open) and Domicile (OBC NCL) category seats will be converted to open category in the Spot Round of seat allocation. Unfilled Domicile SC/ST seats will be merged with SC/ST seats in the Spot Round of Seat Allocation.

Requirements under each category for NIFT 2025 Reservation Criteria

The NIFT 2025 reservation criteria outline specific requirements for each category to ensure fair representation in the admission process. These requirements include eligibility based on caste, economic status, disability, and other factors, in line with government regulations. Candidates must meet the prescribed criteria and provide valid documentation to avail themselves of the reservation benefits.

1. SC/ST Candidates

  • 15% of seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, and 7.5% of seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
  • Candidates applying under the SC/ST category must provide a valid Caste/Tribe certificate issued by the Competent Authority of their respective State or Union Territory. The certificate should be in the candidate’s name.
  • The certificate must be in English or Hindi. If the certificate is in any other language, a certified translation must be provided. If a certified translation is not submitted, the candidate will not be eligible for the category reservation benefit.
  • The category mentioned in the NIFT 2025 application form will be considered final, and no changes will be allowed afterward.

2. OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)

  • Candidates must provide a valid OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate. This certificate should be issued in the candidate's own name, not in the name of a parent or guardian.
  • The caste listed on the OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate should be included in the Central List of OBCs.
  • For OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates, ensure that the certificate has not been issued before April 1, 2024.
  • Candidates have to submit the category certificate along with other documents at the time of NIFT admission 2025.
  • The category declared in the NIFT application form will be considered final, and no changes will be allowed after submission.
  • You are required to upload the caste certificate for the OBC category while filling out the NIFT application form.

3. Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Reservation (Open Category)

  • This reservation is exclusively for candidates belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) within the Open Category. 
  • Applicants must meet the criteria outlined in the OM No. 20013/01/2018-BC-II, dated January 17, 2019, by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, Government of India.
  • Candidates must provide a valid EWS (Open) certificate issued by a Competent Authority. The certificate must be dated on or after April 1, 2024.
  • A 10% reservation is available for EWS candidates who meet the specified criteria.

4. Persons with Disability (PwD)

  • Candidates must have a disability of 40% or more to qualify for admission under this category, as defined by the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
  • A valid Disability Certificate issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is required. This certificate must include a Unique Disability ID.
  • Candidates must present their Disability Certificate during the NIFT admission process. It is essential to ensure that the certificate is in the candidate's name.
  • There is a 5% horizontal reservation for PwD candidates across all programs. If PwD seats remain unfilled after the counseling process, they will be converted to the open category.
  • The category declared in the NIFT application form is final, and no changes will be allowed after submission.

NIFT Lateral Entry Admission (NLEA 2025) Tentative Seat Availability

The NIFT Lateral Entry Admission (NLEA) for 2025 provides an opportunity for candidates who have completed relevant diplomas to directly enter the third semester of undergraduate programs at NIFT. The total seat availability for NLEA 2025 is applicable to various programs, including Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech), with specific allocations for different categories such as Open, SC, ST, and NRI candidates.

NIFT 2025 Reservation Criteria for Foreign NationalsNRI /OCI/PIO/SAARC and Domicile Categories

NIFT 2025 provides reservation for Foreign Nationals/NRI/OCI/PIO/SAARC candidates, who are selected based on GMAT, SAT, or GRE scores instead of the NIFT entrance exam. Select NIFT campuses reserve seats, with 5 seats per academic program at locations like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai, and 3 seats at others including Bhopal and Bhubaneshwar. Additionally, NIFT offers reservations for State Domicile Candidates, prioritizing applicants who have completed their 12th class examination in the state where the NIFT campus is located.
