The story 'Harihar Kaka' is written by Mithileshwar. The story revolves around a simple old man living in a rural neighborhood. He becomes helpless in his last stage of life because all his relatives are selfish. The writer also pointed out how greedy his family members and neighbors were. In the story, that old man is challenged by the harsh nature of his family members. Gurdial Singh fondly recalls his school days in a village where only a few boys were inclined towards bookish knowledge. Not all children attended school, with many dropping out midway; and the academic year was also quite inconsistent with barely two months of studies followed by a long long holiday. One of the main fears keeping absenteeism alive was the terror of corporal punishment that Gurdial himself often had to endure at the hands of the teachers. However, he does remember his Headmaster, Mr Madan Mohan Sharma as being very kind-hearted and opposed to punishing kids. Gurdial vividly remembers one such incident when their PT Sir had made all pupils impersonate roosters for not doing their homework; on seeing this, Headmaster Sharma ji exploded in fury and issued an order to suspend him immediately. After that day, the PT master never returned to school again.

There is a story called 'Topi Sukhla' from the novel written by Rahi Masoom Raza. The story is about Topi, his best friend from another religion, yet both had a deep friendship.
Topi Shukla is a tale of fondness between two childhood friends, one of Hindu faith and the other from a Muslim grandma. Iffan and Topi were inseparable; they both desired unconditional affection. When visiting Iffan's home, Topi would spend time with his Grandmother who greatly admired his quaint oriental tongue. Dadi always asked about Topi's mother’s welfare first and foremost. Grandma loved him just as much as she did Iffan, having formed an endearing bond with him. After her demise, Topi felt forsaken, missing her shadow in his life. Upon learning of Iffan's father being transferred, Topi was left alone and unable to progress through ninth grade for two years; his family didn't seem to comprehend him at all.
