Difference Between Hydroponics and Aeroponics: Hydroponics and Aeroponics both methods are both used for growing plants. Aeroponics is a method that is used for growing plants in the air without the use of soil. Hydroponics is a method to uses nutrient solution in water and does not use soil.

  • Hydroponics is a type of horticulture technique that involves growing plants (crops or medicinal plants) without the use of soil by only using the water-based mineral nutrient solution in aqueous solvents or a method to use the nutrient solution in water and does not use soil.
  • Perlite, grave and other substrates are an inert medium that is used for terrestrial or aquatic plants that grow with their roots.
  • Despite inert media, root can also cause change pf the root exudates and rhizosphere pH can affect nutrient solution physiological balance by secondary metabolites.
  • The transgenic plant can be grown hydroponically and allow the liberation of pharmaceutical proteins as part of root exudate in the hydroponic medium.
  • The nutrients used in the hydroponic system include organic and inorganic sources like fish excrement, duck manure, purchased chemical fertilizers, or artificial nutrient solution.
  • With the help of the controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) process plants can commonly be grown hydroponically in a greenhouse or contained environment on inert media.
  • Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, lettuce, and cannabis are plants that can grow hydroponically.
  • The process of hydroponic can lead highest biomass and production of protein compared to other growth substrates of cultivated plants in the same environmental conditions and an equal amount of nutrients supplied.
  • Hydroponics takes less water and nutrients to grow so in harsh environments it will little accessible to grow their own plant-based food.

Techniques Used in Hydroponics

There are the following techniques used for growing plants hydroponically:

Static Solution Culture

Plants were grown in containers of nutrient solution like glass Mason jars, pots, buckets, tubs, or tanks in static solution culture. The solution can be aerated or may be unaerated (when the level of solution is low enough that enough roots are above the solution so they can get oxygen in adequate amounts). Through the process of photosynthesis, homemade systems can be constructed from containers of food or canning glass jars in which aeration is provided by an aquarium pump aquarium airline tubing and biofilm of green algae on the glass or  aquarium valves. To eliminate the effects of negative phototropism clear containers can also be covered with aluminum foil, butcher paper, and black plastic.

Continuous-Flow Solution Culture

In this solution culture the nutrient solution regularly flows past the roots. It is much simple to automate than the static culture because sampling and inurement to the temperature, pH, and nutrient concentrations can be made in a huge storage tank that has the potential to assist thousands of plants. The nutrient film technique, also known as NFT, is a well-liked variation in which a very shallow stream of water containing all the dissolved nutrients necessary for plant growth is recirculated in a thin layer past a mat of bare-root plants with an upper surface exposed to air in a watertight channel. As a result, a large supply of oxygen is provided to the roots of the plants. The main benefit of the NFT system over other forms of hydroponics is that the plant roots exhibit adequate water, oxygen, and nutrient supplies.

Aeroponics

It is a method that is used for growing plants in the air without the use of soil. The basic principle of this technique is to grow plants that are suspended in a closed or semi-closed environment in which plants dangle roots and lower stems by spraying with a nutrient-rich water solution. The leaves and crown extended above are known as the canopy. The plant roots are separated by the plant support structure. Frequently, closed-cell foam is compressed around the lower stem and lodged into an opening in the aeroponic chamber, which decreases labor and expense for larger plants, trellising is used to dangle the weight of vegetation and fruit. Preferably, the environment is kept free from pests and disease so that the plants may grow healthier and they are faster than plants grown in a medium.

Difference Between Hypothesis And Theory

The environment in most aeroponics is not closed perfectly off to the outside, pests, and diseases may still cause a threat, and the environment that is controlled advance plant development, plant health, growth of plants, flowering, and fruiting for any given plant species and cultivars. Aeroponics is frequently integrated with traditional hydroponics because of the sensitivity of root systems; this serves as a backup "crop saver" (backup nutrition and water supply) in case the aeroponic significant failures. A high-pressure near 80 pounds per square inch (550 kPa) diaphragm pump is used in high-pressure aeroponics to provide nutrients to the roots via 20–50 micrometer mist heads.

Types of Aeroponics

1. Low-pressure Units

In low-pressure units, the roots of the plants are suspended above a reservoir of nutrient solution. The pump of the low-pressure unit sends nutrient solution through jets or ultrasonic transducers which drains back to the reservoir.

2. High-pressure devices

This device is used when the mist is produced via a high-pressure pump for example in process of horticulture. This system includes techniques for water purification and air purification. Also pressurized nutrient delivery system.
