CBI Enquiry on NEET 2024: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has assumed control of five cases related to the recent undergraduate National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG). One case involves a suspected leak of exam papers in Patna, Bihar. Another case concerns an alleged scheme to assist 30 candidates during the exam in Godhra, Gujarat. The remaining three cases involve impersonation of exam takers in Rajasthan.
Special teams assigned to investigate these cases have gathered detailed information for further examination. Individuals arrested by state police will undergo questioning by the CBI as part of the ongoing investigation. In addition, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has filed a case and detained three individuals. Among them, two operated coaching centers in Latur and allegedly provided exam-related information to students under false pretenses. The police have invoked the newly enacted Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. The CBI is considering taking over this case as well. He has taken the concerns of NEET aspirants to the Supreme Court and is leading efforts within the NTA, which has agreed to remove the grace marks given to 1,563 students. NEET-UG 2024 exam was conducted across 4,750 centers, with approximately 24 lakh candidates participating. Initially scheduled for June 14, the results were announced earlier on June 4. Allegations of irregularities have sparked protests, legal actions, and political debates across several cities. In response to these developments, a group of students has filed a plea in the Supreme Court, urging the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) to investigate the matter thoroughly. Previously, the Supreme Court had sought responses from the Centre and the NTA on multiple petitions, including demands for scrapping the NEET-UG 2024 exam and a court-monitored investigation. The apex court has temporarily halted proceedings on similar pleas pending in various high courts. Concerns were also raised regarding the distribution of perfect scores among candidates, with 67 students achieving a full 720 marks, including six from a center in Faridabad, Haryana. This has raised suspicions of irregularities in the examination process. Furthermore, controversy emerged over the granting of grace marks to students at six centers due to time loss during the exam. The Centre informed the Supreme Court that these grace marks would be annulled, offering affected students the option of a retest. Additionally, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct a retest for 1,563 candidates affected by these developments on Sunday.
