How to Become a Chartered Accountant After 12th?

After clearing the class 12 exam, students must enroll in the CA Foundation course through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) official website. Registration details and exam schedules are released online.

The exam for all the levels of CA is conducted three times in a year, namely January, May, and September. Aspirants have the option to attempt any of the exams.

Here is the step-by-step approach to becoming a Chartered Accountant after 12th:

  • Enroll in the CA Foundation course through ICAI after completing Class 12. Registration is done online via the ICAI website.

  • For the foundation level, students should prepare four core subjects across two groups and appear for the Foundation exam. The subjects of CA Foundation are Accounting, Business Laws, Business Mathematics, and Business Economics.

  • Those who clear the CA Foundation level are eligible to appear for the Inter level exams. For this level, candidates should separately register on the ICAI official website.

  • Next, students should start their three-year Articleship under a practicing CA. The articleship aims at providing students hands-on experience in accounting, auditing, and taxation.

  • Once Articleship and Inter exam preparation completes, students can appear for the exam in one or all the exam sessions held annually.

  • Those who pass the CA Inter level are eligible for the final exams. 

  • For CA Final preparation, students need to cover advanced topics in accounting, law, and management.

  • Register for the CA Final exam and appear for six subjects divided across two groups. 

  • After qualifying for the CA Final exams, candidates have to go for the General Management and Communication Skills (GMCS) program to develop soft skills and professional etiquette.

  • Apply for membership with ICAI after passing the Final exam and completing all the training.
