CDR Full Form, Structure, Features, and Benefits of CDR

CDR full form is Complementarity Determining Regions. It is made of three elements namely, a protein cell, a synthetic peptide T cell, and B cell and carbohydrate. It constitutes a paratope which is an important part of an essential antigen that is produced by the lymphocyte. The basic function of the CDR is to protect the body from infection by strengthening the immune system.

CDR Full Form in English

The CDR full form in English is Complementarity Determining Regions . It is the part of a receptor T cell and B cell in the body. These molecules are bonded to the antigen via an antibody that protects the body from infections. All of the six CDRs in the body are connected with each other via a polypeptide chain.

CDR Full Form in Hindi

The CDR full form in Hindi is 'कम्प्लीमेंटैरिटी डिटर्माइनिंग रीजन्स'.

CDR Full Form in Medical

The CDR full form in medical is Complementarity Determining Regions . It is one of the antigen-binding functionalities that comprises immunoglobin (Ig) domains that are made of polymorphic heavy and lightweight chains. Presently, there are six types of CDRs that are present in the human body. All of these are parts of the light and weight chains thus creating a separate VL and VH.

Structure of CDR

The CDR structure comprises variable chains in T-cell receptors and immunoglobulins produced by T-cells and B-cells. Both these molecules are binded together with a specific antigen. This CDR consists of three antigen receptors (CDR1, CDR2, and CDR3) which are arranged consecutively on the amino acid sequence. This antigen receptor also comprises two variable parts with two different polypeptide chains along with 6 six CDRs of each antigen. The tertiary structure also comprises new antibodies also consists of two antigen receptors. There are twelve CDRs in total comparison of CDR1 CDR2 and CDR3 in the polypeptide chain.

Features of CDR

There are twelve CDRs in total CDR1, CDR2, and CDR3. Here are the major features offered by CDR:

  • Diversity in amino acid sequences
  • Antigen Binding to recognise and bind them with specificity.
  • Hypervariable Loops
  • CDR Numbering
  • CDR3 Diversity
  • Antibody-Antigen Interaction
  • Somatic Hypermutation
  • Immunoglobulin Variability

Benefits of CDR

The CDR within antibodies offers several key benefits in the immune response and antibody-mediated functions.

  1. CDRs are responsible for recognising and binding to specific antigens. This specificity ensures that antibodies target only particular foreign substances. This helps to enhance the immune system's precision in neutralising threats.
  2. The variability in CDR sequences allows antibodies to recognise a wide array of antigens, from pathogens to toxins. This in turn enhances the immune system's ability to combat various threats.
  3. CDRs enable the immune system to generate a diverse action of antibodies against different antigens. This helps to bolster the body's defense mechanisms against infections.
  4. By binding to antigens, antibodies with appropriate CDRs help to neutralise pathogens and prevent their harmful effects.
  5. The CDRs aid in designing vaccines that target specific antigenic regions. It eventually promotes the production of antibodies in the body.
  6. CDRs play a role in developing antibodies which is used for therapeutic purposes. A lot of infections like autoimmune diseases, cancer, and viral infections are treated with this.
  7. Scientists often study CDR to study antigen-antibody interactions, protein structures, and immune responses.
