Who Requires ER?

A range of mid to severe medical conditions are treated in ER. However, a patient is immediately rushed to ER if he is experiencing any of the following conditions.

  1. Severe chest pain or symptoms of a heart attack
  2. Difficulty breathing, severe asthma attacks, or choking
  3. Severe injuries, such as fractures, deep cuts, or burns
  4. Abdominal pain, especially if accompanied by vomiting or other concerning symptoms
  5. Sudden or severe headaches, particularly if accompanied by neurological symptoms like weakness or confusion
  6. Individuals with signs of a stroke, such as sudden weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking, or a severe headache
  7. Patients with uncontrolled bleeding or severe blood loss
  8. Individuals with severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) or severe allergic symptoms after exposure to an allergen
  9. Patients with suicidal thoughts, severe depression, or acute psychosis.
  10. Seizures or convulsions
  11. Severe and uncontrolled pain, such as severe abdominal or back pain or migraines
  12. Mental status, confusion, or loss of consciousness.
  13. Severe infections, high fever, or signs of sepsis
  14. Suspected drug overdose or poisoning

  • Chest pain and heart-related emergencies - ER is designed especially for patients who experience chest pain, heart attack symptoms, palpitations, or other cardiac-related issues
  • Respiratory emergencies - Breathing difficulties, severe asthma attacks, choking, and severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) are also treated in an ER with advanced equipment
  • Stroke - This requires immediate evaluation and intervention and is best treated in an ER. The major symptoms of a stroke include sudden numbness or weakness, difficulty speaking, severe headache, or loss of balance
  • Severe abdominal pain - Severe conditions like appendicitis, gallbladder problems, and kidney stones are also treated well in the ER
  • Mental health crises - Patients experiencing severe depression, suicidal thoughts, acute psychosis, or uncontrollable anxiety are brought to ER for proper treatment and stabilising
  • Drug overdoses and poisonings - Severe cases involving drug overdoses, poisoning, or exposure to toxic substances require immediate ER medical attention
  • Seizures - Uncontrolled or prolonged seizures are treatment and well-attended in the ER. This is best for patients with epilepsy or those experiencing seizures for the first time
