The MTP full form is Medical Termination of Pregnancy. This is one of the preventive ways to avoid pregnancy which is less than nine weeks. The process involves medicines namely Mifepristone and Misoprostol that stimulate hormones that eventually terminate the pregnancy.
Both medicines can be taken orally or can be inserted in the vagina. However, the MTP process is followed by regular follow-ups to rule out any bacterial or fungal infection.

Complete Process of MTP
MTP is a non-invasive process that is conducted under the supervision of a gynaecologist. In this process, the patient has to undergo a medication process. The doctor prescribes an oral pill named Mifepristone. After this, another pill named misoprostol is given to you in the next 36 to 72 hours. This can be either taken orally or inserted into the vagina. Mifepristone blocks the growth of progesterone in the uterine lining and breaks it down thus terminating the pregnancy initially. Whereas, misoprostol causes contractions and expels the fetus. This process is followed by heavy vaginal bleeding for the next two weeks. Once the process is completed, the patient has to do a follow-up medical examination to avoid any medical complications.

Recovery Period After MTP
The medical termination of pregnancy is a time taking process and the body takes time to recover. One of the major factors that decide the overall recovery period is the patient’s overall immunity and metabolism. Apart from this, the stage of pregnancy in which the termination is done is also a crucial factor that decides the recovery period. In general, the patient may experience internal bleeding only for a week. Common side effects like severe back or stomach discomfort, cramping, fever, and foul-smelling vaginal discharge are expected for a longer period. Technically, a patient can take longer than one month to commence his daily routine.
