TT Vaccine was developed in 1920 and was administered to patients. However, it was redesigned in 1938 for the soldiers during World War II to prevent tetanus. Then, the DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis) vaccination was introduced in 1948 and used until 1991 by an acellular pertussis vaccine. To make it more comprehensive, the DTP vaccine caused redness, swelling, and pain around the injection site in 50% of recipients. After this, two new vaccines were launched in 1992. Combined tetanus and diphtheria with acellular pertussis (TDaP or DTaP) could be given to adolescents and adults (as opposed to formerly when the vaccine was only given to children).

3. Wound protection
The TT vaccine is administered to individuals who have suffered wounds or injuries. The injection prevents the onset of tetanus bacteria and prevents its development in the body.
4. Prevention of neonatal tetanus
Pregnant women receive the TT vaccine to prevent the risk of neonatal tetanus in newborns. It protects against tetanus infection transmitted through the unhealed umbilical stump.
