NCERT Solutions for Class-11 Maths Exercise 7.4

Question 1. if n C 8 = n C 2 ,find n C 2

Solution :
Given: n C 8 = n C 2 ,find n C 2

Since, we know that n C a = n C b ⇒a=b or m=a+b

That is,

n C 2 = 10 C 2 =10! / 2!(10−2)! = 10! / 2!8!=10×9×8!  /  2×1×8!= 45

Hence, n C 2 =45

Question 2: Determine n if

(i) 2n C 3 : n C 3 =12:1

(ii) 2n C 3 : n C 3 = 11:1

Solution :
(i) Given: 2n C 3 : n C 3 =12:1

Question 5. Find the number ways of selecting 9 balls from 6 red balls, 5 white balls and 5 blue balls if each selection consists of 3 balls of each colour.

Solution : Given: Total number of balls: 6 red balls, 5 white balls and 5 blue balls.

3 balls of each colour should be selected making a total of 9 balls.

Therefore,

Out of 6 red balls, 3 balls can be selected in 6 C 3

ways

Out of 5 white balls, 3 balls can be selected in 5 C 3

ways

Out of 5 blue balls, 3 balls can be selected in 5 C 3

ways

Therefore, by multiplication principle, number of ways of selecting 9 balls is =
