KVPY is Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) and it is conducted every year by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, KVPY is National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences to attract exceptionally highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science.

KVPY Exam is one of the most respectable entrance exams for students who wants to build their career in science. KVPY Exam need right strategies to score good marks in exam. Start with previous year paper and understand the pattern of exam types of questions asked in the entrance exam. Conceptual clarity is required to solve the questions asked in KVPY Exam. What is the objective of KVPY Exam ? The objective of the program is to identify students with talent and aptitude for research it encourages them to take up research careers in Science.
General information on KVPY Exam
1.Who can appear for KVPY Exam- KVPY Exam can be given by students who are in class 11 or 12 or 1st year of any undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology having aptitude for scientific research.
2.KVPY Exam Dates- The advertisement for the KVPY Fellowship appears in all the national dailies normally on the Technology Day (May 11) and the Second Sunday of July every year.
3.Who conduct KVPY Exam- Special groups / Committees are set up at IISc to screen the applications and conduct an aptitude test at various centers in the country. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered.
4. What are the scholarship students get through KVPY
Monthly Fellowship
- SA/SX/SB- during 1st to 3rd years of - B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math. / Integrated M.Sc. /M.S.
Rs. 5000
- SA/SX/SB - during M. Sc. / 4th to 5th years of Integrated M.Sc. /M.S./M.Math./M.Stat.
Rs. 7000
- The Fellow continues to study Basic Science courses in school/junior college/university, and maintains a minimum level of academic performance of first class or 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate or equivalent grade points and the students has to necessarily pass all the subjects prescribed for that particular academic year (two semesters in case of semester system) and should have obtained the above specified percentage of marks.
5.Three category of KVPY are SX, SA and SB
For SX:
- Qualifying Exam: Candidates who have taken admission in class 12th (science subjects) can apply.
- Minimum Marks: Candidates must score minimum 60% (50% for SC/ST/PwD) in Mathematics and Science subjects (PCB) in Class 12th. Candidates also have to obtain at least 75% (65% in case of SC/ST/PwD) in class 10th.
For SA:
- Qualifying Exam: Candidates who enrolled themselves in Class 11th (science stream) must apply for this exam.
- Minimum Marks: Candidates must pass class 10th with Mathematics & Science subjects with minimum 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD).
For SB:
- Qualifying Exam: Candidates who enrolled in 1st year of the UG programme in Basic Science (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology)- B.Sc/BS/B.Math./B.Stat./MS/Int. M.Sc) can apply for this exam.
- Minimum Marks: Candidates must score at least 60% (50% in case of SC/ST/PwD category) in 10+2 examination. In the first year of their final exam in B.Sc/BS/B.Math./B.Stat./MS/Int. M.Sc, students must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD).

FAQ For KVPY Exam
Q-1. Can we fill application form of KVPY ?
Ans- Candidates must apply through online only. No hard copy of the application is available.
Q-2 Can we appear for KVPY Exam in offline mode Or it is completely through online test ?
Ans- KVPY from 2020 is completely online and through CBT. CBT means that the test will be conducted using an easy-to-use portal on a computer. No prior experience with using computers is needed to opt for such a test. In fact, students who choose to take the computer based test will be directed to a web link that contains a mock aptitude test hosted on the same portal.
Q-3. Can I take a computer-based test in Hindi language ?
Ans- Yes you can appear for Hindi. KVPY is conducted in both Hindi and English.
Q-4.What is the syllabus for the aptitude test ?
Ans-There is no prescribed syllabus for the aptitude test. The aptitude test aims to test the understanding and analytical ability of the student than his/her factual knowledge.
Q-5. Is there any negative marking in KVPY ?
Ans- The exam duration is of 3 hours. In Part I, Each correct answer will carry 1 mark and 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. In Part II of Stream SA, for each correct response, two markswill be awarded to the candidates & 0.5 marks will be deducted for incorrect answer.
