About SCRA

The Special Class Railway Apprentices (SCRA) is a unique sandwich training scheme modeled on “Catch them Young” fundamental of professional training. Bright young candidates who have just completed their Intermediate (Plus 2) with Science are selected and trained by Indian Railways at its own cost, to be graduate mechanical engineers. On successful completion of four years of apprenticeship, during which the SCRAs study, write exams and undergo practical training, they are awarded Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering.

SCRAs are selected through the Union Public Service Commission Examination conducted every year. Notification for this examination is issued in major newspapers, employment news and on the website of Union Public Service Commission around the month of October. A written examination is conducted in January. Candidates are shortlisted based on this examination. They appear for interview/personality test and medical examination normally conducted in May. The final merit list of candidates recommended for selection is issued in June. The SCAs join sometime in July. Further details can be seen at the website of UPSC.

SCRA 2022 Exam:

One of the critical elements in SCRA exam information is the number of vacancies for the said post. In 2022 SCRA recruitment, there are 42 job vacancies for the posts. The reservations of ST, SC, and OBC will also be appropriate. Around two percent of the seats are booked for SC and ST for this exam recruitment. All the tentative information is given below.

Eligibility Crieteira For SCRA:

The aspirants should understand the eligibility criteria mentioned in the notification for Special Class Railway Apprentices, SCRA. The eligibility measures for the SCRA exam conducted by UPSC are as follows:

  • The students applying for SCRA must be between 17 to 21 years. Respite in age limit will be based entirely on UPSC rules for the reserved category.
  • Aspirants must pass their 12th standard or intermediate exam in physics, mathematics, or chemistry. These subjects also must be learned as one of the primary subjects in the examination.
  • Candidates must get first or at least second class (Min 50%) in the exam. The candidates need to finish graduation with Mathematics and Chemistry or Physics as one of the primary subjects in the exam.
  • Pre-engineering aspirants are also qualified but must pass with a second-class degree.
