NCERT text books can fetch you good marks in the in the KVPY examination. Still you need to read some other specific books which can help you to excel . Though some people think that books for JEE preparation can meet the requirement of KVPY examination. As I am KVPY scholar as well as a student of computer science in IIT Roorkee , so with help of my experience I know that it is somewhat partially true but not completely. I realised that JEE test your problem solving aptitude and application of concept or just simply dynamic thinking but KVPY focuses more on your basic and research aptitude, so i think you should go first for base books like NCERT and other board reference books (of CBSE). Apart from these go for previous year papers and mock papers if you can get from any good coaching center. Then solve few pre-olympiad problems of those of NSEP,NSEA,RMO(if possible),NSEC,InChO . They helped me. Further , set a target minimum score before attempting the mocks. If you are into JEE , its books will definitely help .
Well there aren't any specific books like the ones you can find for JEE,BITSAT,IITJEE etc. Best way to prepare for is to read your textbook thoroughly and maybe read those topics at a higher level from standard reference books Given below are the books which I used to study for KVPY examination, which are based on the KVPY latest syllabus and keeping in the view that complete mastery is required over each topic from grass root level to the complex concept to reach the apex in KVPY examination.
Mathematics
Seeing the problems I would suggest maths olympiad books, IITJEE books would be good.
Some names are :
THM or Tata McGraw Hill book for the JEE
Challenges and Thrills of Pre-College mathatics
An excursion in mathematics
Seeing past RMO, IMNO problems and solving them and being familiat with them helps
Titu Andreescu's books for the olympiads
Problem Primer, a book might help
Arthur Engel's problem solving strategies may help
Solving KVPY papers may help
This particular ISI's RMO website is helpful finding out about various olympiad math books :
Personally, I did mostly Olympiad math and this helped me in my KVPY SA preparation.
I have seen the KVPY SB papers too and familiarity with Olympiad level math is very helpful.
By no means I want to imply that non-familiarity with Olympiads is a disadvantage KVPY.
This is true even for IITJEE.
No wonder why many 1st rankers are IMO medalists and many of the top rankers are various olympiad medalists.
This is true even for KVPY.
In mathematics the book of JEE Advanced will be able to serve the purpose

And best part of these books is that they are so much popular that you can get free downloadable pdf to check whether these books will serve your purpose or not
If you want list of reference books for specific topics, then send me a message with your favourite topic and level of preparedness.
1. Physics: KVPY Physics syllabus spans the entire 11th and 12th course, albeit with an advantage: the questions are very, very, very simple if you just have the most basic amount of knowledge!
So, here's what you do: start preparing now! Join a good institute, or get a good teacher and simply start with the 11th and 12th books. NCERT should be enough for the theory. Your basic aim should be that, by mid-11th, you must have an overview of the *entire* syllabus.
I repeatedly keep stressing on "entire" because the topic-wise distribution of marks is highly variable. In 2014, they gave less questions from mechanics than the previous years (which severely affected me).
Analyse the last 5 years' question papers, see the depth lf the questions, and study accordingly. Complete as much as possible, but obviously, skip the portions which never appear (example: Modern Physics).
2. Chemistry: Chemistry was always my favourite subject, so I had to do nothing especially. Pick up the NCERT book for *Class XI only* and understand all the topics well.
Organic is quite scoring in KVPY- you'll have about 5-7 marks from it, and all of them will be *directly* from NCERT-XI.
For Chemistry, there is absolutely no need to refer to the XII book (except for Chemical Kinetics- you should just prepare this topic, to be on the safe side).
3. Biology: I put in no extra effort for Biology. I was an ICSE board student and thus, had a good foundation in Bio. Bio is extremely scoring. Don't neglect it!
Pick up good Class IX-X books and study them thoroughly. Anita Prasad's books are detailed, yes, but good enough. There's also this Foundation Course book by MTG for IX and X, which should serve you fine.
Please note: the above books are quite a bit detailed. Analyse the question papers, and see which topics you need to study. If you absolutely hate Bio, then at least go through some basic ICSE text, like the one by Selina Publishers.
4. Mathematics: Ahhh! The culprit! KVPY Mathematics is highly variable, unless of course, you are inclined towards the Mathematics Olympiads.
Maths wasn't usually this challenging, until last year- but just don't worry, cutoffs will decrease accordingly if the paper is tough.
Keep practicing, though. If you are into Mathematics, utilise the time you get in 10th to practice more and more questions (see the 2014 paper- that's the toughest you can get!).
Finally, to conclude, I'll say that KVPY-SA is highly variable and unpredictable. You can never be fully prepared for it- but that shouldn't stop you from being the best prepared you can be!
Also, do not worry if the syllabus seems too vast. Even the top rankers cannot do all the questions.
A classmate of mine had 63 in the aptitude test and an 83 in the interview. This was enough to land him with an AIR in the mid 60s!
Do the Aptitude test as well as you can- don't rely much on the Interview.
Candidates who apply for KVPY 2017, can choose their desired mode of examination between online or offline. There are objective type questions in the Aptitude test divided in two sections Part I and Part II. The questions must be solved in a duration of 3 hours. The KVPY question paper is of 100 marks.
The KVPY exam for SA Stream includes 15 questions of each subject (physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology) in part I and 5 questions each in part II.
The KVPY exam for SB/SX stream includes 20 questions of each subject in part I and 10 questions each in part II.
In part I, 1 mark is awarded for every correct answer while in part II 2 marks are awarded for correct answers. 0.25 mark is deducted for incorrect answer in part I while 0.5 mark is deducted for part II.
NCERT books can fetch a candidate good marks in KVPY. But candidates must also refer to other books for practice. Books which can be used to study for KVPY exam, which based on the KVPY syllabus. The candidate must keep in the mind that complete mastery is required on each topic from grass root level to the complex concept to reach the apex in KVPY examination.
