ICSE Class 9 Geography Internal Assessment
In the ICSE Class 9 Geography Internal Assessment, students will maintain a record file with three exercises chosen from the following options (evaluated out of 10 marks):
- Understanding the uses of different types of maps.
- Identifying and explaining directions through an illustrative diagram.
- Reading and interpreting scales, including statement of scale, graphic scale, and representative fraction method (no drawing required, only explanations).
- Analysing a town guide map or an atlas map, recognizing symbols, colours, directions, and distances.
- Drawing and identifying various forms of contours, such as valleys, ridges, slopes, conical hills, plateaus, escarpments, and sea cliffs.
- Creating a sketch map to organise information about a visit to an important place, a zoo, or a monument.
In addition to the practical work, candidates in the ICSE Class 9 Geography Internal Assessment will need to prepare a project report on any one topic (evaluated out of 10 marks). The topics can be chosen from the suggested assignments provided below, or candidates can select their own assignment within the four broad areas given. This allows for flexibility and creativity in exploring geographical concepts.

- Weather Records: Keep and interpret weather records from newspaper data for at least one season.
- Data Collection from Secondary Sources: Utilize modern techniques like GPS, remote sensing, aerial photography, and satellite imagery to create a PowerPoint presentation on current issues such as the use of Earth's resources, development activities, and ecological disasters like droughts, earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, landslides, cyclones, and tornadoes worldwide.
- Area Studies: Select a topic from World Studies and prepare a PowerPoint presentation or write-up on it.
- Physical Features: Collect data from primary and secondary sources, take photographs, and create sketches of features found in the nearby areas or visited locations throughout the year as part of school activities.
- Global Environmental Issues: Gather information about global environmental problems and communicate your findings through various mediums such as posters, charts, collages, cartoons, handouts, essays, street plays, or PowerPoint presentations.
- Water Pollution Investigation: Identify the sources of water pollution in local water bodies and assess water quality.
Meteorological Instruments and Their Uses: Learn about Six’s maximum and minimum thermometer, mercury barometer, aneroid barometer, wind vane, anemometer, rain gauge, and hygrometer and present their functions and applications.
These assignments allow students to explore different aspects of geography and develop their research, analysis, and presentation skills.
