Introduction
The numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, …… are known as whole numbers. We can also define whole numbers as collection of numbers which contains zero and counting numbers / natural numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ……). Whole numbers are called non-negative integers.
Illustration 1:
Does every whole number have a whole number as predecessor as well as successor ?
Sol: No, 0 has no predecessor as a whole number because 0 – 1 = –1 not a whole number.
But every whole number has its successor
Illustration 2:
Write the largest and smallest three digit whole number.
Sol: Largest three digit number = 999
Smallest three digit number = 100
Face value and place value of whole numbers

3 is hundred’s place digit
2 is thousand’s place digit
