Solutions: to worksheet-10 Topic- Conservation of plants and Animals
1.Poaching
2. Endangered
3. (b) One-horned Rhinoceros
4. (d) Storms
5. Conservation refers to wise use of natural resources with an aim to preserve living and non-living resources.
6.
Zoological park |
Wild life Sanctuary |
(a) It is a facility where animals are kept for public exhibition (b) It is an artificial habitat |
(a) It is an area within which animals are protected from possible dangers such as hunting (b) It conserves the natural habitat of animals |
7. Effects of deforestation:
(a) Environment: Deforestation increases the temperature and pollution level on earth. If plants are destroyed then the level of CO2 in the atmosphere will rise. As a result, CO2 will trap more radiations there by adding to global warming. An increase in the temperature of the earth will disturb the natural water cycle. As a result, there will be change in rainfall pattern, this could lead to drought.
(b) Cites (urban areas): Due to global warming, the cities will also face many environmental hazards like irregular rainfall, rise in temperature, pollution, dry climate. Also rise in sea level, may result in calamities like floods, tsunamis, which will destroy life and property cities will also face water scarcity, respiratory problems due to pollution.
8. If we go on cutting trees, it will result in many environmental hazards, since the energy pyramid will be disturbed leading to the imbalance in the ecosystem. Deforestation will lead to loss of biodiversity since the habitat of wild animals would be destroyed. It will also result in desertification due to soil erosion. Cutting down forests will cause shortage of forests products and irregular rainfall ultimately leading to global warming.
9. Biosphere reserves and wildlife sanctuaries provide protection and suitable living conditions to wild animals. Here, killing or capturing of animals is strictly prohibited. Inspite of that, it is a pity that even protected forests are not safe because people living in the neighborhood encroach upon them and destroy them.
10. Deforestation leads to desertification. In the absence of trees, soil erosion occurs more rapidly exposing the lower hard and rocky layer. As a result, soil loses humus and becomes less fertile. Hence, a fertile land which acts as a source of living for villagers gets converted into a desert. It also reduces the ground water level, which may lead to natural calamities and thus have an adverse effect on environment.
