Solutions: to worksheet-4 Topic- Cell Structure and Functions

  1. Mycoplasma /PPLO
  2. Tissue
  3. (d) Eukaryotic cells have membrane bound organelles
  4. (d) More than a trillion cells
  5. (b) Ribosome
  6. White blood cells eat up or kill bacteria that enter the blood and save us from many diseases. So white blood cells change shape in order to engulf or kill the disease causing agent.
  7. Organelles are embedded in the cytoplasm of the cell.
  8. The fluid of the nucleus (nucleoplasm) and the Fluid of the cell (cytoplasm) together make up the protoplasm.
  9. The size of the cells has no relation with the size of the body of the animal or plant. It is not necessary that the cells in an elephant be much bigger than those in a rat. The size of the cell is related to its function.
  10. Each organ in the system performs different functions such as digestion, assimilation and absorption. Different plant organ also perform specific functions. Each organ is further made up of smaller parts called ‘tissues’. A tissue is a group of similar cells performing specific function. Hence, ‘cell is the structural and functional unit of life ‘
