Ray and Lines

Basics of Geometry of Class 6

Ray

A ray is a portion of a line. It starts at one point (called starting point) and goes endlessly in a direction.

Perpendicular lines

If two lines are intersecting and the angle between them is a right angle than the lines are said to be perpendicular lines.

Parallel lines

Lines which lie in the same plane and do not intersect are called parallel lines. The distance between them is same throughout

Transversal:

A line which intersects two or more lines in a plane at different points is called a TRANSVERSAL. Here line ‘r’ is a Transversal for lines p and q.

Angles Made By a Transversal With Two Lines:

Draw two lines P and Q and a line R as transversal to P and Q intersecting them at A and B respectively. Now the 8 angles so formed are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
