Ans. Flat green portion of leaf is called Lamina.
Q2. Define venation .
Ans. The pattern made by veins on the leaf lamina is called venation.

Ans. The tiny pores on the leaf surface are called stomata.
Q4. What is transpiration?
Ans. The loss of water by plants through stomata is called Transpiration.
Q5. What part of plant is called food factory? Why are they so called?
Ans. Leaves are called food factories of plant.They are so called because they are the places where photosynthesis happens.
Q6. Name the two systems of flowering plant.
Ans. The two systems are root system and shoot system.
Q7. What are creepers?
Ans. Plant with weak stem that cannot stand straight, and spread on ground are called creepers.
Q8. What are climbers?
Ans. Plants with weak stems that take the support of neighbouring structure to climb are called climbers.
Q9. Name the male reproductive organs of flower.
Ans. Stamens are the male reproductive organ of flower.

Ans. The second whirl of flowers is called petal.Usually it is bright in colour.
Function - It attract insects for pollination.

Q17. What do you mean by venation? Write the types of venation?
Ans. The design made by the veins in a leaf is called leaf venation.
It is of two types
- Recticulate venation - veins form a net like structure.
- Parallel venation - veins are parallel
Q18. What are pollen grains? Where are they located?What is their function?
Ans. Pollen grains are the yellow powdery substance. They are found within anther (part of stamen).They contain the male sexual cells of the flowering plant.
Their function is to help in pollination by getting deposited on the pistil and travel through the pollen tube,meet the female cell thus forms the basis of fertilization.
Q19. What is fertilization? Name the location of the plant where it occurs.
Ans. The fusion of male and female sex cells is called fertilization. When pollen grains fall on stigma, they move down through style and reach in ovary. The male sex cells present in the pollen grains fuse with the female sex cells present in ovules. It is performed inside ovary.
Q20. Write the characteristics of roots
Ans. Roots have following characteristics :
- Roots usually grow below the ground.
- Roots grow from the radical of the embryo of seed.
- Roots always grow toward gravity or away from sunlight.
- Roots does not have leaves, branches, nodes and internodes.
- Roots absorbs water and mineral salts from the soil.
