How to apply for UPSC CSE 2023?

Candidates have to apply separately for each exam conducted by UPSC. There are separate application forms for UPSC Civil Services Examination Preliminary, Main, and Interview.

There is nothing complicated in the application process. To fill out the Application form online, the candidate should follow the steps given below.

There are two parts to the UPSC Civil Services Exam Application Form - Part I and Part II.

Part I

The steps involved in filling out the Part I application form are as follows:

  • Visit the official website of UPSC to know about any notification released by the Union Public Service commission.
  • Click on Apply Online Link on the right-side panel.
  • Click on the Online Application for Civil service examinations of UPSC. 
  • Click on the link for Part I registration, then carefully read all the important instructions to fill out the online application form displayed on the screen. 
  • Click yes after reading the instruction.
  • Fill up personal details such as Name, Gender, Date of Birth, Father’s Name, Nationality, Address, etc in Part I registration. 
  • Fill up the educational qualification and contact details after filling up the personal details. 
  • Fill up photo identity details, marks obtained at graduation level, the number of attempts, and the center for preliminary exam details.
  • Preview the details and edit the application, if needed before the final submission of the application.
  • Click submit after previewing. The candidate will get the registration ID when Part I registration is completed.

Part II

The steps involved in filling out the Part I application form are as follows:

  • To fill out Part II of the application, use the Registration ID (received after completion of Part I registration) and date of birth to log on.
  • In this part, candidates have to pay the Application Fee Online (Through SBI Net Banking/ Debit Card/ Credit Card) or Offline (By Cash Through SBI Bank Challan). (Fee - Female / SC / ST / PWBD - Nil; All other candidates - Rs.100)
  • Select the examination center.
  • Upload scanned images of the photograph, signature, and photo ID card as per the following UPSC format and size.

  • After uploading all the documents in the prescribed size format, click on upload.
  • After reading the declaration, apply by clicking on the 'I Agree' button.
  • After the final submission, the candidate will receive a message confirming the completion of the application on the registered mobile number and email address.

UPSC CSE Application Fee

UPSC charges a small fee from the candidates for Prelims and Mains. UPSC Application Form for CSE will not be accepted until and unless you have paid the required fee as per your category. Candidates can pay the UPSC Exam Application Fee online or offline mode.

Online Mode

Candidates can pay the application fee online through Visa/Master/Rupay Credit/Debit Card or Internet Banking of SBI.

Offline Mode

Candidates can pay the application fee offline by paying cash in any branch of SBI. Applicants who choose the ‘Pay by Cash’ mode should print the system-generated pay-in-slip during Part II registration and pay the fee at the counter of the SBI branch on the next working day only. Candidates should note that the 'Pay by Cash' mode will be deactivated one day before the closing of the application process. However, candidates who have generated their pay-in-slip before the deactivation of the process can make the payment at any SBI branch during banking hours on the closing date.

How to Withdraw UPSC CSE Online Form 2023?

If any applicant does not want to take the exam, UPSC has also given the option to withdraw the UPSC Application Form. The application form can be withdrawn from specific dates that are yet to be announced. Candidates can withdraw their UPSC application form by the following steps:

  • Visit the UPSC's official website.
  • Go to the ‘What's new’ section. 
  • Click on the withdrawal of application: Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination.
  • Click on the link given for the withdrawal given at the right corner
  • on the next screen.
  • Read the instructions that appeared on that page and click on the ‘Yes’ button.
  • Enter your registration number and press the ‘continue’ button.
  • Enter the details such as your name, gender, Date of birth, father’s name, mother’s name, mobile number, and e-mail id.
  • Select the option for the withdrawal of the UPSC application form and then press agree.
