This is a record of animal and plant species which are in danger. On the basis of degree of threat 8 red list categories have been given as Extinct, Extinct in the wild, Critically endangered, Endangered, Vulnerable, Lower risk, Data deficient & Not evaluated.

  • About 11,046 species have been listed in RED DATA BOOK in year 2000 out of which 5485 animal species and 5611 plant species were there.
  • RED DATA BOOK was maintained by IUCN the international Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural resources.
  • IUCN headquarter is situated at Morgis, Switzerland.
